What is Linux?

Linux is a Unix-like operating system created by Linus Torvalds. It runs on a number of different architectures ranging from a wrist watch to superclusters of upto 512 processors. This web site is hosted on a server we built. It is a 200 MHz Pentium with 64M of RAM, and SCSI disks and CDROM. This may not seem like much horsepower, but Linux runs great on machines with not much horsepower. This server runs Apache webserver on Linux. More information on Linux.
